Twisted Taco Truck Throwdown, Taco Libre take over S.A., Austin, respectively

As your friendly neighborhood Tacoist, I thought you’d like to know about two taco-themed events this weekend:

The 7th annual Twisted Taco Throwdown takes places 3 p.m.-midnight Saturday at VFW Post 76, 10 10th Street. This is one of the better food events in San Antonio, in my humble opinion. Full disclosure: I’m one of the judges. They did not ask me to blog about it. But I want to because this event is a great deal. Admission is free and there are $1 al pastor taco options from the 20 or so food trucks participating. The trucks will also sell other tacos, but you can’t beat $1 tacos. This event sells itself. Yes, Austin blows. But this event actually looks cool. The taquerias represented are curated by José Rabat, a legit taco critic from Dallas who runs the Taco Trail blog, and a friend of The Tacoist. Plus, S.A.’s own Piñata Protest and Nina Diaz are among the acts. $16 admission, so it’s not cheap. I won’t be going because it’s Mother’s Day and also Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals against the Warriors. But I look forward to checking out the restaurants showcased at this event down the road. Click here for more info.
